Oakmagic Publications

The Cornish Antiquary

Oakmagic Publications has published a biennial journal devoted to folklore studies, myth, superstition and antiquities. The Cornish Antiquary features articles of original research by leading antiquarians and folklorists of the West Country, biographical material on antiquarians of the past, reprints of hitherto unobtainable material by archaeologists and antiquarians and book reviews of important publications in the field.

The journal runs to six issues and carries a number of unusual line drawings and illustrations executed by 18th and 19th Century artists relating to antiquities of the West Country. The emphasis is on the rich folklore and antiquities of Cornwall itself but the journal invited studies from further afield and features material from across the West Country.

Edited by folklorist and publisher Kelvin I Jones, this venture also features background information on several of the authors whose work has appeared as part of the published list of Oakmagic.

The list of topics covered by this journal include the following:
Witchcraft, lives of the Cornish saints, stone age and iron age antiquities, folk customs and survivals, superstitions, legends and folk tales of Cornwall, Devon etc, articles on Celtic beliefs, magical lore etc.
